We had a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Day in school with different visitors. Reception and Year 1 took part in a Dodge Ball session, learnt about recycling, learnt about safety on construction sites, found out about people who help us, including the police, doctors and firefighters, learnt about composting and food waste, and found out about sensory awareness.
Reception and Year 1 enjoyed taking part in Bike Skills over the course of a week. The children showed determination, perseverance and resilience, with many children learning to ride their bike without stabilisers!
Reception have been learning about length, height and width. They compared the length, height and width of different objects then measured them using non-standard units of measure.
As part of their learning in RE, Reception children visited our local church. They met the vicar who talked to the children about what happens during church worship, the features of the church, celebrations that take place in church and the children listened to a short bible story.
As part of our school Sports Week, Reception and Year 1 took part in different sporting activities, including circus skills and football skills.
Reception have enjoyed listening to different Fairy Tales. They listened to the story, 'Jack and the Beanstalk', then played 'Conscience Alley' and sequenced the story, retelling it in their own words. They also listened to 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' and did a 'Hot Seating' activity with children being Baby Bear while the class asked him questions.
Y1 have been learning about maps in Geography. They worked in small groups, matching ordnance survey symbols, then they created their own maps of the school grounds using a key and their own symbols.
After listening to the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Reception made their own 'Bear Bread', using chopping and spreading skills and thinking carefully about their designs.
As part of our Woodlands topic, Reception and Year 1 have learnt about the features of woodlands, where woodlands can be found, what grows and lives in woodlands and why woodlands are important. They created woodland animals with playdough, created close observational drawings of minibeasts, made woodland pictures and habitats as part of their home learning tasks, and they enjoyed exploring our school's woodland area, observing what grows there, doing tree rubbings, and looking at micro-habitats.
