Autumn 2

Here is as link to the medium term planning for Autumn 2.

For the planning overview for Reception click here.

We have been learning about Bonfire Night in Reception and Year 1. The children have explored making fireworks with loose parts, written about firework safety and what they see on Bonfire Night, and created firework pictures using glue, salt and paints.

The children love designing and creating in our construction area and with the playdough!

Our topic for this half-term is Great Explorers. Reception and Year 1 have learnt all about different significant explorers, including space explorers. The children have enjoyed role play in our space station, building 2D and 3D rockets, making rockets with junk modelling, and writing facts about space and what they would take in their space rocket. We have ordered explorers on a time line and compared clothing and equipment for polar explorers then and now.

In maths, the children have been learning about capacity and volume. We used the water tray to compare and describe capacity and volume, using mathematical vocabulary: more/less, full/empty, nearly full/nearly empty, half full. The children measured and recorded capacity and volume using non-standard units.

As part of Anti-Bullying Week, we came to school in odd socks to celebrate how we are all unique. The children enjoyed designing their own odd socks!

In Science, we have been learning about materials. The children identified a variety of everyday materials and their properties. They explored how the shapes of solid objects can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

Remembrance Day activities.

We have been learning about Diwali celebrations in Reception and Year 1. The children have made Mehndi designs, Diya lamps, and created Rangoli patterns in class and Art and Craft Club,

We have enjoyed taking part in Children in Need activities and raising money for a very worthy cause!

We had a lovely visit to Carnforth Library. The children enjoyed listening to a story and choosing a book to take home.

As part of our RE learning, Year 1 and Year 2 visited Church. We were greeted by Father Stephen, who talked to us all about Advent and Christingle.

In PE, we have been exploring how we can move a ball around our bodies without dropping it. We have also been practising a variety of gymnastic rolls.

The children had great fun taking part in our Christmas Dash, organised by the Year 5 Rota Kids, to raise money for Animal Care.
