Summer 1

Reception and Year 1 have had a very busy half-term! They have been engaged in our topics, 'Castles and Homes' (Reception) and 'Magnificent Monarchs' (Year 1). The children have built castles as part of their home learning, designed shields, created posters about significant British Monarchs, and written about what they would do if they were King or Queen for a day.

As part of our science learning, Reception and Year 1 explored outdoors, identifying different plants. They learnt about parts of a flowering plant and trees, and what plants need to to grow and survive. The children planted broad beans in small groups and have been looking after our outdoor plants by helping to water them.

Reception have been busy in their maths learning, including counting and ordering numbers to 20, measuring, and doubling and halving.

We have enjoyed being out in the sunshine for our PE lessons, developing different skills, including throwing and catching and running.

Reception and Year 1 love outdoor learning. There are plenty of opportunities to develop their gross motor skills.

Reception and Year 1 have been learning about life cycles. We had a butterfly garden where the children loved observing our caterpillars grow, turn into chrysalides and transform into beautiful butterflies.
