Carnforth Community

Primary School

Autumn 1

This half-term our Reception topic is, 'Me and My Home' and Year 1's topic is, 'Carnforth and the Capital'. The children have been engaged in lots of different learning, including, talking about their homes, sharing how they travel to school and making a pictogram to show this information, identifying different types of houses around the school grounds, learning the capital cities of the UK, and sorting the physical and human features of Carnforth and London.

Reception children have been learning about numbers 1 to 4 this half-term. Each number is introduced and explored in different ways each week through a variety of questions and tasks. The children have been actively engaged in developing our Numberland, a place where numbers live!

In maths, Year 1 have been learning about the place value of numbers to 30. They have learnt how to read, write, and represent numbers in different ways, including using base-10 and ten frames.

In Science, we have been learning about materials and their properties. The children sorted objects by the materials they are made from. They investigated which is the most suitable material to clean up a spillage.

The children have enjoyed learning about autumn. They listened to the story, 'Leaf Man' then we went out onto the school field to collect a variety of leaves. The children created their own 'Leaf Man' pictures with the leaves we collected. They also painted broccoli printing autumn trees.
