Spring Term 1

What a great day we had at the zoo! It was a long trip on the coach to Dalton but once we got there we had so much fun exploring and finding out about all the different animals. We saw giraffes, rhinos, lions, monkeys, vultures, tigers and the Andean bears! We also got a special opportunity to feed the penguins their lunch. We had a fabulous time and learnt lots of facts about the animals and their habitats in the wild.

If you go down to the woods today.... Reception will be having their teddy bears picnic! We have been looking at changes in stae from 'solids' into 'liquids' as they jelly bar 'dissolved' in the boiling water. We carefully poured the liquid jelly into our pots being sure not to spill any! Now we just have to wait and see what happens after the pots go into the fridge. We have predicted that it will be 'wobbly and jiggly and cold' when we get it out. We made jam sandwiches and teddy bear biscuits too! We had lots of instructions to follow, ingredients to mix, spread, stir and cut!

Number day in Reception was a hive of activity!

Fun in the snow!

As part of our learning about bears, we have carefully painted pictures of different types of bears that we have learnt about. We looked at the shapes and chose our colours carefully and mixed new colours if we needed to. We also learnt how to make brown using different mixtures of the primary colours.

This week we have been learning all about hibernation. We have been making habitats for animals that hibernate. We have learned about the types of animals and bears that hibernate over the Winter months. We made a cave to hibernate in with bear books and torches inside. We also used our compare bears to practise counting accurately.

We have been enjoying our multi-skills P.E. sessions with Tim. Lots of running, jumping, hopping, balancing and games.

Reception enjoyed their visit from Harold today. He helped us to learn all about keeping our bodies healthy.

Kung Hei Fat Choy! Happy New Year! What a busy start to the new term. After sharing our own experiences over the Christmas holidays, we talked about how we said hello to the New Year. We have started out year learning about Chinese New Year an the traditions they follow to celebrate. We have tried Chinese foods, built the Great Wall od China, made a Chinese dragon, tried on Chinese outfits.
