RECEPTION

Welcome to Reception

Our Reception children learn together every day, joining the Year 1 & 2 children for PE and our carousel learning on a Friday afternoon.   Miss Mansfield is the class teacher, supported by Mrs Winterburn and Mrs Greenland.  The children enjoy playing and learning inside and outside as well as exploring the 'breathing space' and our garden area.

P.E

On a Tuesday and Thursday, Reception have P.E. lessons. On these days the children should come to school in their school P.E. kit.  Full kit includes the school PE hoodie, T-Shirt, shorts and pumps.  Please also provide tracksuit/jogging bottoms as it is possible that some P.E. sessions may take place outdoors. If your child normally wears studs, please ensure these are removed on the morning before school on these days. If your child has hair that is long enough to be tied back, please ensure, for safety, that all hair is tied up and away from your child face.

Home learning

In Early Years and KS1 we feel the most important form of home learning that you can do to support your child is to read daily with them. Phonics and reading underpins your child's learning and getting into a regular routine of reading, playing phonics games or sharing a picture books are essential in the early stages of language development and reading.

We will change your child's home reading books at least weekly; these books are given in line with your child's current stage of phonic learning. These books are designed to support your child's phonics skills and offers opportunity to practise what they have learned in school. In addition, we also offer a class library book to each child from our school collection. This book is chosen by your child to be taken home and enjoyed at home for the week. We then have an opportunity on a Friday where the children are able to swap their class library book.
