Reception and Year 1's topic this half-term is, 'Bears'. In English we have been doing lots of learning around the story, 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. The children took part in 'Conscience Alley' where some children took on the role of the family and they had to decide whether to go in the cave or not! The children created their own story maps of the story and we went on our very own 'Bear Hunt' around school!
Katie visited us from Life Education as part of PSHEE. We learnt about our bodies, healthy eating and exercise, the importance of a good sleep and safety with medicines.
In PE, Reception and Year 1 have enjoyed using the apparatus and travelling in different ways. They have shown courage, resilience and determination.
In Computing, Reception and Year 1 have been learning about algorithms. They enjoyed programming the BeeBots to follow different directions.
In Maths, Reception have been learning about part-part-whole and how numbers can be partitioned in different ways.
Year 1 have been learning about money in maths. They have learnt about the value of different coins and they used coins to pay for items in a shop, adding prices to find the total.
In RE, Year 1 and Year 2's learning is about Islam this half-term. The children thought about our wonderful world and sorted images of good and bad things in our world, discussing why they thought they were good or bad and what we can do to make our world a better place.
In Science, we have been learning about animals, including humans. The children learned about the 5 main animal groups: birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians and mammals. They described the features of different animals and sorted them into the correct animal group. We then learned about the diet of different animals and sorted animals as herbivores, carnivores or omnivores.
As part of our 'Bears' topic, we went on a class visit to The Wildlife Oasis. This visit linked to our science learning, classifying animals, and our geography learning about the different continents that animas live in.
To end our 'Bears' topic, our class enjoyed having a Teddy Bears' Picnic!
