Spring Term 2

HOOK! WWII HOME - making an Anderson Shelter

Year 5 and 6 had great fun code breaking in computing. This links in with our topic on World War 2. We learnt about the History of code breaking and Bletchley Park and then had a go ourselves. It got quite competitive at times but great fun :)

MATHS - coordinates and battleships

Local visit to the Heritage Museum linked to our WWII topic

Y6 learnt about rationing during WWII and afterwards. They had fun making a depression cake - with no butter, eggs or milk. They thought it would be dry and not taste very nice - but they devoured it. Devoured it so quickly that we didn't get any pictures of the finished cake!

To end our WWII learning, we held a showcase afternoon for Y6 parents. Children came dressed from the era and worked with their parents to create a WWII blackout poem. Children performed a WWII soundscape and read out their Anne Frank diaries and evacuee letters. To finish the afternoon, we sang Vera Lynn's 'We'll Meet Again' accompanying the song on the keyboards, glockenspiels and Garage Band on the IPads

We were very lucky to have Tim Fletcher visit us to launch our PE Hockey unit for this half term. We learnt lots of new skills such as: dribbling, safe tackling, push passing and stopping the ball. Then we took part in a mini tournament. Year 6 can't wait to build on these skills over the rest of the half term.

WORLD BOOK DAY FUN!
