Class 1 - Rec & Year 1
Welcome to Class 1 - 2020/2021
We are a class of Reception and Year One children. Miss Mansfield is our class teacher and our full time teaching assistant is Mrs Winterburn. Mrs Gleave teaches us on a Wednesday when Miss Mansfield is out of class. We enjoy playing and learning inside and outside as well as exploring the 'breathing space' and our garden area.
A letter was sent home at the start of term which outlined all the details of how things work in Class 1. If the letter did not come home or you would like another copy it is attached above or just ask at school for a printed copy.
On a Thursday, Class 1 have P.E. lessons. Please make sure your child has a full, labelled P.E. kit in school at all times. Full kit includes the school PE T-Shirt, shorts and pumps. Please also provide tracksuit/jogging bottoms as it is possible that some P.E. sessions may take place outdoors. If your child normally wears studs, please ensure these are removed on the morning before school on these days. If your child has hair that is long enough to be tied back, please ensure, for safety, that all hair is tied up and away from your child face.
In early years and KS1 we feel the most important form of home learning that you can do to support your child is to read daily with them. Phonics and reading underpins your child's learning and getting into a regular routine of reading, playing phonics games or sharing a picture books are essential in the early stages of language development and reading.
We will change you child's home reading books weekly, these books are given in line with your child's current stage of phonic learning. These books are designed to support your child's phonics skills and offers opportunity to practise what they have learned in school. In addition we also offer a class library book to each child from our school collection. This book is chosen by your child to be taken home and enjoyed at home for the week. We then have an opportunity on a Friday where the children are able to swap their class library book.
Each child also has a 'yellow word book' which gives list of words following the same sound pattern. We highlight words from these lists matched to our phonics sounds of that week. These lists are updated every Friday which we would encourage you to use alongside your child's home reading book to give another opportunity to practice segmenting and blending the sounds and recapping new learning.
